My name is Martin Magdaleno and I am originally from Zamora Michoacán (Mexico.) God has given me the privilege in Jesus Christ to be the Spanish Ministry Pastor here at Calvary Chapel Adelanto. My upbringing was in Zamora, Michoacán, Mexico but in March of 1984 when I was 19 years old I jumped the border illegally with the idea to look for my ex-girlfriend, Edith.
I came to the United States with the American Dream in mind. Once in the United States I thought I could live the same sinful life that I lived in Mexico with the drinking and partying, not knowing that this country was full of law and order. As a result of my partying and drinking, I got a DUI on Thanksgiving Day in March of 1984 and went to the Los Angeles County Jail for 3 days due to the fact that I also owed a J-Walking ticket that I did not pay from March to November when it was $10 dollars when I got it, in November went up to $300.00 dollars.
I realized that in this country I was not getting away with the way I was living my life. Finally, I found her and we became boyfriend and girlfriend again and I married her in the year of 1987, that's when I became legal in the United States by getting my temporary green card then after few years I became American Citizen in 1996.
We have been blessed with 4 wonderful children, but in November of 1995 when we had the third child, he
had to stay in the hospital for months since the first day he was born. The doctors told us that my baby
boy was not going to live more than 3 months and it was necessary for us to see a Psychiatrist, this was
devastating for Edith and I. I started to have suicidal thoughts, I thought that getting rid of my life
was the solution, but in that day that I came home I found the Bible open in Isaiah chapter 9 verse 6
and The Word said:
6 "For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Now I discovered that I had no peace and I needed the Prince of Peace in my life. We began to look for answers in our popular religion, having no straight answers, my wife was already reading the Bible and attending Calvary Chapel Hesperia, but I was so reluctant to leaving the religion that my parents, my grandparents, my great-grandparents, and my great-great-grandparents followed.
She prayed for me and finally convinced me to go to Calvary Chapel Hesperia and I went to church with the intention of finding things to demonstrate to the pastor that he was wrong and that my religion was right, I found out that I was wrong when the pastor was preaching, I sunk in the pew that I was sitting on; it was like he was speaking directly to me and my sin problems. I thought that Edith was having meetings with the pastor to tell on me, not knowing that it was the Lord talking through that pastor's vocal cords, so I decided not to go to church any more.
Then in August of 1997 my wife invited me to a Harvest Crusade with Greg Laurie, and when I heard that Jesus Christ had come to this earth to save the sinners and that God will forgive me of my sins, I accepted Jesus Christ as The Lord and Savior of my life; I was born again. I started attending church every Sunday and Wednesday, and because of the situation with my son I began to help with the kindergarten class in Sunday School. Soon, the teacher asked me to fill a questionnaire to be his assistant, so I did.
After serving in the Children's Ministry for a while, I decided to attend the School of Ministry at Calvary Christian Fellowship in Covina California. I became the Sunday School teacher for the pre-k and kindergarten for 5 years at Calvary Chapel Hesperia. We also got involved in the Mexico Mission Ministry with pastor Brian DuPont for 4 years, then I became the assistant leader of Pastor Samuel Alvarado in The Spanish Ministry at Calvary Chapel Hesperia. After few years The Lord called us to open the Calvary Chapel Adelanto Spanish Ministry.
I remember what The Lord Jesus told Paul in the book of Acts chapter 18 verses 9-10,
9 "Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; 10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.”
I found grace in the eyes of the Lord by Him utilizing me for His Glory. You see I was not worthy, but He made me worthy and gave me a life to serve The Majesty on High. I am so thankful for my Senior Pastor Rick Skelton that he is sensitive to the Holy Spirit in seeking guidance from the Lord Jesus to utilizing me for God's Glory.
I am so blessed beyond words with all the people that the Lord has brought to listen to his Holy
Scriptures at Calvary Chapel Adelanto Spanish Ministry.
